Drinking and driving is never a good thing to do, but driving while under the influence of marijuana is just as dangerous. The Texas Highway Patrol arrested a man last week after discovering drugs in his possession during a routine traffic stop.

The 33-year-old man is facing several drug charges after marijuana was discovered in his vehicle during a traffic stop in Alexandria, Texas. Authorities have charged the man with improper lane usage, second offense possession of marijuana and DWI. When officers approached the vehicle they could smell the odor of burning marijuana and then saw two marijuana cigarettes inside the car.

Officers asked the suspect to step out of the vehicle so that they could search the car. They found a duffle bag in the back seat with approximately $27,000 in cash in vacuum-sealed bags.

While we don't know the outcome for this defendant, if you find yourself in a situation where you have been arrested for drug possession, you should contact a criminal defense attorney. It's important to remember that while your case may not look promising, everyone is innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. It's important to realize that drug charges could mean serious penalties, fines or possible jail time, depending on the circumstances of your case. A conviction could be life-altering and only an experienced criminal defense attorney can work to review your charges, make sure that your arrest was done by-the-book, give you options as it relates to your case and build an effective defense.
