Skilled Representation in Federal and State Appeals
If you or a loved one has been convicted of a crime, don't feel like the only choice that you have is to accept it. Mistakes are made in trials more frequently than people realize and those mistakes often lead to the conviction of an innocent person. If you believe that a mistake led to a wrongful conviction in your case, you may have grounds for an appeal.
The appeals process can be extremely complex and should be handled by an experienced criminal defense lawyer. At the law office of Louis Elias Lopez, Esq., I handle appeals for clients throughout west Texas and southern New Mexico. From my offices in El Paso, I represent clients in a variety of criminal law matters in the state and federal appellate courts.
A Conviction is Not the End
I handle federal and state appeals for clients that I have represented as well as clients whose current attorneys do not handle appeals. I thoroughly review all of the evidence and the transcripts from your first trial and identify any errors that could have impacted the outcome of your case. Once I have completed my review and determined that there was an error in your trial that negatively impacted you, I will prepare a written brief to submit to the court.
I have a solid track record of success with appeals. Many previous appeals clients have received new trials or immediate acquittals. Often, people don't understand that the vast majority of appeals are won or lost on the strength of the brief. Only a small percentage of appeals cases require oral arguments. My experience with appeals has given me an insight into what the court looks for and what kind of briefs work.
